Mentioned since 922, the "villa" or "castrus" of GUZARGUES was given, or restored, to the church of Maguelone in 990.
Under the name of Saint MICHEL, the church appears in a donation in 1112 by ELEAZAT de CASTRIES to Bishop GAUTHIER, of the quarter of the tithes of the parish.
It is still mentioned in the privileges of Maguelone in 1153, in a bull of LUCIUS III in 1184 and in the archives of VILLEMAGNE in 1197; this parish with priory depended on the archpriest of ASSAS, the lord was the bishop of Maguelone, and later of MONTPELLIER.
